Matrimony (Marriage)

The Sacrament of Matrimony is celebrated as required. The parish office should be contacted as soon as possible, but an ABSOLUTE MINIMUM OF THREE MONTHS notice is required to make the necessary arrangements.

In the Archdiocese of Dublin it is a requirement that all couples presenting for marriage will complete an approved Pre-marriage course. The Diocesan agency that deals with marriage preparation is Accord here is a link to find a suitable Pre-marriage course:

Paperwork required:

Both partners are required to have a Baptismal and Confirmation Certificate issued no more than 6 months prior to the date of marriage. In addition each partner is required to have a “Declaration of Freedom to Marry” form; this form can be obtained from the Parish Office. The form is to be completed by a family member – parent or sibling – stating that they know of no reason why their family member cannot be married, then form is then brought to a priest of the parish, signed in his presence and stamped by him. This form replaces the ‘Letter of Freedom’ however some parishes still issue & require a ‘Letter of Freedom’ so please check with the priest who is presiding at your wedding.

In addition to the above, a minimum of three months’ notice must be given to the Registrar of Marriages – this is a Legal/State requirement and is separate from any notice to the Church.:
