[Adapted text of letter sent to parents on 13th August]
We hope you are all keeping well and that you and your families have been safe during these very difficult times. We know that your children are very excited about embarking on the new adventure of going to secondary school and we appreciate that they will be a little apprehensive too. We are confident that they will be ready and will settle down and enjoy the experience. The purpose of this letter is to let you know about the arrangements for Confirmation and Graduation.
We are delighted to finally announce the schedule for Confirmation and Graduation this year. We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding to date and are fully aware of how disappointed the children were in March. The pandemic has severely hampered all of our lives and will continue to do so for some considerable time. The new arrangements listed below are dependent on the situation remaining as stable as it is at the moment here in Dublin, so hopefully, we will be able to go ahead on these dates and in the format that we have organised.
As you are aware, current restrictions only allow 50 people in Beaumont church. Therefore, it will be necessary to hold the ceremonies elsewhere. The parishes of Donnycarney and Whitehall have kindly offered the use of their churches to enable us to complete the ceremonies. We will incorporate the Graduation of the pupils from 6th class into the ceremony.
There will however be certain restrictions relating to the use of the churches with which we need to comply such as:
• On the day of the ceremony, we can only accommodate one class making Confirmation at a time. This means that there will be two Confirmation masses per day.
• Numbers attending will still be restricted. Unfortunately, only the candidate, their parents and one sponsor can attend the Mass.
• The church will need to be sanitised after each ceremony.
Needless to say, we have to respect the parish programme of Masses and weddings etc. so after consultation with clergy in both parishes, we have agreed the following dates and times to hold our Confirmation ceremonies:
Saturday September 12th 2pm Mr. Campbell’s Class in DONNYCARNEY
Saturday September 12th. 4pm Ms. Coleman’s Class in DONNYCARNEY
Saturday September 19th 9am Ms. Dillon’s Class in WHITEHALL
Saturday September 19th 2pm Mrs. Walsh’s Class in WHITEHALL
Saturday September 26th 12 noon Mr. Burns’ Class in WHITEHALL
Saturday September 26th 2pm Ms. Smith’s Class in WHITEHALL
The children will be presented with their Graduation plaque at the end of the mass so all are invited to attend. Unfortunately, we will not be able to host a Confirmation/Graduation reception as we have done in the past as the numbers would not be permitted in the Pastoral Centre given the Covid 19 restrictions.
We will organise a practice day on September 5th and will be in touch with you all with further details in due course. We look forward to meeting you and have no doubt that the children will have an unforgettable experience on the big day.
